Club Announcement

Updated: Jan 28, 2019

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Johnson as Technical Director of Wealdstone Football Club.

Richard has a wealth of experience across a wide spectrum of activity within the game, we are looking to build firm foundations within the football club for future prosperity, we are therefore keen for Richard to settle in to his new role and to support the Board as we consider all aspects of development of the club.

Richard’s role to the end of the season does not impact the playing budget or the budget deficit, his role will include but not be limited to the following;

  • Assume the role of Technical Director and join the club as an Associate Director.

  • Work with the Board to identify a Manager suitable to lead our U23 side next season.

  • Identify professional Clubs for potential pre-season friendlies and plan pre-season with the Board and Management Team.

  • Begin to consider links with Pro-clubs to support loan signings to the First Team for next season (and this if need be).

  • Work with the Board to identify and consider commercial opportunities that may benefit club turnover and raise our profile.

  • Work with the Operations Director and Club Secretary in liaison with the FA to identify any grant opportunities

  • Support the great work being undertaken across the Wealdstone family of clubs at every level.

  • Work with the Chairman and First Team Manager to support the First Team Manager where he may require assistance

  • Attend Board Meetings as required to report on progress.

Richard will be combining his role at Wealdstone with his role at Watford Football Club, a club where he enjoyed significant success. In a 12 year association with Watford he was instrumental as a combative and ever present midfielder in the Graham Taylor side that won consecutive promotions from division two and division one to reach the Premier League in 1999. Known for his ability to score from long range his exploits earned him International recognition for Australia. “Johnno” has also enjoyed spells at QPR, Stoke, Colchester, MK Dons and Northampton, amongst others.

We welcome Richard to the Wealdstone family and will be holding an interview with Richard soon.
