Cyprus international Anthony Georgiou signs
The Stones are delighted to announce the signing of 27 year old defender Anthony Georgiou.
Having trialled, and impressed in all of our pre-season games so far this summer, the Cypriot international joins Matt Taylor’s side on a permanent deal, taking the number 3 shirt, having worn the number 23 whilst on trial.
Georgiou began his career in Watford’s academy before making the switch to Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, making his first team debut in a 3-0 win over APOEL Nicosia in the UEFA Champions League. He was also an unused substitute in a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu Stadium in the Champions League group stage. After spending time on loan at Levante B, Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers, making a dozen appearances in League One, Georgiou made the move to AEL Limassol in Cyprus making 23 appearances for the first division club.
The left-back would return to England in 2022, joining Leyton Orient. After a brief spell on loan with Yeovil Town in the National League, Georgiou would sign for Enosis Neon Paralimmi in Cyprus.
He made his international debut in 2018 in a friendly against Montenegro and has gone on to earn 8 caps, including 6 appearances in UEFA European Championship qualifiers.
