NEW SIGNING | Stones sign Kinsella

Updated: Jul 9, 2022

Wealdstone have completed the signing of highly sought-after defender Lewis Kinsella. The 27-year-old Aston Villa academy graduate made over 140 appearances for Aldershot Town and can also count Colchester United and Luton Town amongst his former clubs.

His passion and work ethic made him a fans favourite at Aldershot, and Stones manager Stuart Maynard was understandably delighted to get hold of his man.

“Lewis is a player we’ve admired for a while, so we’re really excited to finally have him on board. He’s someone who believes wholeheartedly in how we play and manage, which is why he’s chosen us over a lot of more high-profile clubs in the division.”

Kinsella was given the captaincy at Aldershot last year, and Maynard praised the leadership qualities of his new signing. “Lewis has a wealth of experience and that’s going to be crucial for us in testing moments. He’s been one of the best left backs in the division over the last few seasons, so it’s a credit to everyone involved that a player of Lewis’ quality has wanted to come to us.”

Kinsella joined Aldershot on loan from Colchester United in January 2018, becoming a crucial part of a side that went on to finish fifth in the National League, making the end-of-season playoffs.

He signed permanently for the Shots in Summer 2018, and quickly became a stalwart at left-back, earning a reputation for being a dependable and reliable defender, eventually earning the captain's armband at the EBB Stadium.

Maynard added “Importantly, along with his quality, he gives absolutely everything on that pitch and he’s got that nasty streak in him that you want in your team. I’m delighted he’s bought into our philosophy and chosen us, and I’m sure the fans will take instantly to Lewis as he’s a terrific player, and an unbelievable lad.”

Stones fans can get their first glimpse of Kinsella in action in our second pre-season friendly tomorrow, as we travel to Arbour Park to take on Slough Town at 1PM.

Or you can catch Lewis and his new teammates in action at Grosvenor Vale throughout the season, saving money week in, week out when you buy a 2022/23 Season Ticket!
