NEW SIGNING | Striker Olomola joins the Stones

Wealdstone Football Club are pleased to announce the exciting signing of striker Olufela Olomola subject to National League and FA approval.

The 24-year-old forward joins on a one-year deal with a one-year option following his departure from League Two side Hartlepool United. He will wear the No 9 shirt following the sale of Josh Umerah. "Olufela is a brilliant addition and he's someone we've tracked for a while," said Maynard. "He links the play really well and can run in behind, which makes him more difficult to mark. "There's so much more to his game than people have seen, so we know in our environment, like previous players we've had, we can get it out of him. "He's got great experience for his age and he is hungry and wants to learn, which makes him very coachable. His work ethic is incredible too for a centre forward, so he has a lot of strong attributes." Olomola is a former Southampton FC academy graduate and made his first team debut for the Saints in October 2016 as a 26th minute substitute, in a 1-0 EFL Cup win against Sunderland. He joined then-League Two side Yeovil Town on loan ahead of the 2017-18 season, where he scored seven goals in 21 league games, before returning to Southampton in the January. He was released by Southampton in May 2018 and joined then-League One side Scunthorpe United. Olomola spent three years at the Iron, but was given limited opportunities, being loaned back out to Yeovil in August 2018, before another loan to League Two, this time Carlisle United, in July 2019. After being released from Scunthorpe in May 2021, Olomola joined Hartlepool on a permanent deal. He made 17 total appearances for Pools, scoring once in the EFL Trophy, and spent time out on loan at Yeovil, where he scored two goals in nine appearances. "He's shown he can score goals at a higher level, so once we'd managed to have a footballing conversation with him, both parties knew it was the right move for all of us," said Maynard. "We're delighted to have Olufela on board and we can't wait to get working with him."

Olomola goes straight into Maynard's squad to face QPR this evening.
