OLDHAM PERFORMANCE WASN’T DESERVING OF THE RESULT SAYS TAYLOR
Wealdstone were defeated 3-2 by Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park, despite a 2-0 lead after 30 minutes.
“I thought the players were excellent for large periods of the game, we started extremely well and the game plan to press them high worked,” Said Matt Taylor.
Micah Obiero had the Stones ahead after just four minutes, before Max Kretzschmar smashed home, 30 minutes in, to double the advantage.
“We scored two goals, looked comfortable away from home to a team that I believe with the players they have that will be in contention for automatic promotion come the end of the season.”
The hosts pulled one back just before the break, Josh Stones was left unmarked in the area to dispatch his header into the far corner. Stones doubled his tally immediately after the break, with Oldham going direct from kick-off.
“Unfortunately we conceded goals that were avoidable either side of halftime, however the players response to this was very good and we had chances to go back in front.”
“We made individual errors that have ultimately cost us in this game and we have been punished.”
The defeat was only the third time in the club’s history they have played at Boundary Park against the Latics, winning the previous two fixtures.
“However I must stress, to be disappointed in the result away to Oldham shows how far this team has come from the start of the season. We got the performance again, however we haven’t got the result that deserves.”
Taylor’s side face Dagenham & Redbridge at the Vale on Saturday, their last home game of the year.
“I expect a reaction at home vs Dagenham next Saturday.”
