THE CONTEXT
The talking stops and the football starts as Wealdstone kick off their 2022-23 National League campaign with a tough fixture at home to promotion hopefuls Bromley. The Ravens, who capped off a solid league campaign with a shock FA Trophy win over Wrexham at Wembley Stadium in May, have strengthened in the transfer window, with former Barnet striker Adam Marriott their main standout addition. The 31-year-old managed 18 league goals last season, and Andy Woodman will be hoping he can fire Bromley into the play-off picture.
WHAT WAS SAID? Stuart Maynard: "We're probably a couple of weeks behind, not in fitness, but the lads have got to gel together now. I hummed and went on about the process last season but there is a process, and it takes a little longer because of the way we play for the lads to get into it and really understand.
"We're really excited about the squad we've put together, it's going to take a little time to gel and we're not as fluent as we want to be but I don't think any team will be at this stage going into the first game of the season. We've got a full week to prepare and we'll make sure that our prep is right."
ONE TO WATCH
Serial National League goal scorer Michael Cheek is entering his fourth season with the Ravens and will be looking to improve on his 17 league goals last season. The 30-year-old talisman has 52 goals in 122 National League games for Bromley, and the Stones’ defence will have to marshal him well if they are to get anything out of the game.

A book by lifelong Bromley fan Dave Roberts about his journey supporting the club was turned into a film. ‘The Bromley Boys’ stars Martine McCutcheon and Alan Davies and was released on DVD in 2018.
