Preview - Tonbridge Angels (H) - Saturday 26th October
Wealdstone return to National League South action on Saturday when the Stones host Tonbridge Angels at The Vale.
The Stones are five points clear at the top of the league and come into this fixture with one defeat in 11 league games.
Stones Manager Dean Brennan: “It’s going to be a tough game, we’re coming in off-the-back of a couple of gruelling games and they are coming in off-the-back of conceding two goals in injury-time.”
It’s been two weeks since Wealdstone last played a league fixture due to FA Cup commitments, the Stones can return and look to extend their lead at the top.
Brennan on returning to league action: “Cup runs are nice but it’s all about success in the league campaign, if you ask any top manager, they’ll say they want to win the [league] title.”
Tonbridge Angels are newcomers to the division and started the season poorly until a recent 5-1 victory against Braintree and an unlucky 2-1 defeat to Chelmsford City.
The Angels sit in 19th place and are one-point above the relegation zone; they will come to The Vale and be a tough side to break down, while also be dangerous in counter-attacks.
Brennan on Saturday’s opponents: “They’ve got pace in the wide areas, a good balance on the left and good pace on the right-hand side.
“There are no easy games within this division, what’s important is we show that we’re still a good side and there’s no panic from us.”
Wealdstone have suffered a handful of injuries in the last week, including Nick Arnold and Billy Clifford with hamstring problems.
Stones full-back Ryan Sellers and midfielder Kavan Cotter have been out long-term and will be nearing a return, they will not return from injury this weekend.
“There are a few [players] that are struggling”, said Brennan. “We may possibly have a couple out [for Saturday] who felt a bit stiff yesterday [Wednesday]”.
An on-the-whistle report will be available on the official Wealdstone FC website at full-time on Saturday; you can follow live updates on the official Stones Twitter feed from 3pm.
