REPORT | BRAINTREE TOWN 1-2 WEALDSTONE

Libby McElhinney

The Stones travelled to Essex on Wednesday evening to face Braintree on the search for three points towards safety.

There were two changes to the starting eleven from the win against Yeovil, with Hutchinson and Dyer coming in for Sohna and Boldewijn.

Braintree found an opener only six minutes into the first half, with Robinson's shot meeting Gunter's hand, but it wasn't strong enough to keep it out of the top corner.

Only a couple of moments later, Reid went through one on one with the Matt Gray, who took the striker down in the process, resulting in Reid being shown a yellow card.

Shortly after, Reid found himself another chance , courtesy of a great ball from Kretzschmar, but his volley bounced wide.

Possibly the closest chance of the first half for the Stones was a quarter of an hour into the game, when Hutchinson's ball almost reached the end of Reid's run, but Gray managed to tip it away.

The Stones came out fighting again in the second half, with a few near misses from either team in the first 15 minutes.

At 70 minutes, Wealdstone were given a free kick outside the box, to which Kretzschmar's impressive ball ends up in the hands of Gray, who loses his balance and brings the ball over the line with him!

It didn't take long for the Stones to find a winner, when five minutes later a brilliant finish from Grant put the Stones ahead.

With no clear cut chances after that for the home side, the Stones were left with three points to take back to Ruislip.

Next up is Ebbsfleet at The Vale on Saturday 22nd, where U19's are invited to come along for only £1 when tickets are bought online in advance.

WEALDSTONE XI: Gunter (GK), McAvoy, Mariappa (C), Grant, Hutchinson, Dyer, Eastmond, Georgiou, Ktretzchmar, Obiero, Reid.

Attendance: 888 (118 Stones fans)
