Wealdstone come from behind to secure a point at the VBS Community Stadium.
The Stones took the lead after 34 minutes when Josh Grant headed in his first Stones goal.
The hosts levelled the score just before the break with a well-struck effort from Lewis Simper.
Steve Morrison's side took the lead with another effort from range through Will Davies.
Kallum Cesay levelled the score once more with a header to the back-post that caused havoc in the area.
With recent departures, Matt Taylor had little to choose from in terms of options. Only five players made the Stones bench, with academy players Justin Sekyere and Declan Phillips filling two of the available spots.
Stones keeper Toby Steward was called into action almost instantly. A scything through ball found the run of former Stones forward Dillon De Silva, who forced a solid reflex save out of Steward.
But the Stones fired back with chances of their, just two minutes later. A well worked move found the on-rushing wing-back Anthony Georgiou, who looked to volley towards goal, but could only hit his effort high and wide.
Minutes later, the full-back created a chances, drilling the ball into the area and finding the first-time effort of Sam Ashford.
Despite the hosts holding the majority of the ball, it was the Stones that would make the breakthrough, in the 34th minute. A header from Enzio Boldewijn was parried straight into the path of Grant, who made no mistake of dispatching his header into the back of the net.
With just one minute to go until the break, the home side were determined to go into the break with something to show for. Former Stones loanee Simper picked up the ball from around 25 yards and struck a well-hit effort into the bottom corner.
Coming out of the break with a momentum shift on their side, the hosts took the game by the scruff of the neck instantly. A quick breakaway found the ball with Davies, who struck a firm effort into the bottom corner to give his tram the lead.
Looking ever dangerous on the break, the U's looked to kill the game straight after their goal. Simper came close to adding a third when the ball was pulled back to him, but he could only blast his effort high and wide.
Once more on the break, the hosts kept creating chances. De Silva was slipped through, only being denied by another stern save from Steward.
Despite a number of chances for Morrison's side, the Stones stayed firm, waiting for a chance of their own. Their patience payed off, in the 68th minute, when Cesay flicked a header to the back post which trickled into the net to level things once more.
Galvanised by their goal, the Stones dug deep a winner. Jaydn Mundle-Smith looked to try his luck from about 35 yards, rifling an effort just wide.
Taylor's side would eventually come away with the point from behind ahead of their next game, a home fixture against Hartlepool United on Saturday.
