REPORT | WEALDSTONE 1-1 SOUTHEND UNITED

Updated: Nov 11

Wealdstone's celebrations were cut short when Callum McFarlane's opener in the 90th minute was cancelled out by Josh Walker's 94th minute equaliser.

Jaydn Mundle-Smith made his first start of the season following his return from injury, with Sam Ashford and Christian Scott also coming back into the Matt Taylor's starting XI.

The game started slow for both sides, with not much action in the first half. The stand out moment from the first 45' was Jack Cook's chance unmarked in the box which saw his header narrowly wide.

Christian Scott kicked off the second half with a shot from distance, which fell comfortably into the hands of the Shrimpers keeper Collin Andeng-Ndi.

Southend weren't short of chances either, Macauley Bonne got onto the end of a corner to tap it in but it was blocked for a corner. The corner then saw Scott-Morriss flick a header just wide.

Howes kept the Stones in it with an outstanding save in the last ten minutes when he leaped to keep out a curling effort from range.

In the closing minutes of the game, the Stones were awarded a free kick which Cook knocked onto the edge of the box, finding McFarlane's path to head it home. This made it three goals in three games for the Fulham loanee, following his brace against Forest Green Rovers, just two weeks ago.

The celebrations were cut short when only three minutes later, Walker equalised for the visitors, seconds before the final whistle, leaving the Stones with a point.

Taylor's side are next in action on Saturday afternoon away at Halifax Town with a 3pm kick off.

WEALDSTONE XI: Howes, Cook, Mariappa (Cesay 46'), Mundle-Smith, Thorpe (Hutchinson 71'), Scott (Dyer 60'), Wells-Morrison, Boldewijn, Obiero, Ashford (Sandat 71'), McFarlane.
