REPORT | WEALDSTONE 1-3 ALDERSHOT TOWN

Will Beaman

Wealdstone’s winning run came to an end after defeat to Aldershot Town at Grosvenor Vale.

Dom Hutchinson opened the scoring after just six minutes with a clever chip.

Substitute James Henry levelled the score on 63 minutes before firing his side ahead just five minutes later.

Josh Barrett sealed the deal with an effort into the top corner after 73 minutes.

Neil Gibson made four changes to the side that beat Woking on Saturday. Match-winner Kallum Cesay replaced Alex Dyer in the starting XI.

Jack Cook and Anthony Georgiou came in for Adrian Mariappa and Will Randall, whilst the injured Josh Grant was replaced by Connor McAvoy.

It was a perfect start for the Stones when a perfect lay-off from Max Kretzschmar slipped Hutchinson through on goal, who dinked a clever finish past Marcus Dewhurst after six minutes to score his first goal of the season.

Looking to build on their strong start, the Stones came close to doubling their advantage when Harrison Sohna whipped a wide free-kick into the path of McAvoy, who’s header dribbled off the outside of the post and wide.

Despite the Stones general first half dominance on the ball, the visitors looked dangerous on the counter. Luca Gunter was called upon after 19 minutes, sticking an outstretched leg out to deny Jack Barham, one-on-one.

The visitors grew into the game as it went on and began to push the Stones back in the second half. Keane Anderson looked to strike from range, forcing a diving save out of Gunter once more.

Aldershot’s pressure finally payed off, in the 63rd minute, when substitute Henry poked into the corner following a scramble in the area.

After drawing the game level, Henry was destined to be the hero once more. A free-kick cleared by the Stones fell into the path of Henry, who struck a perfect effort into the bottom corner from around 25 yards.

With their only real chance of the half, Mustpha Carayol came close to levelling the score once more with a rocket from distance, just two minutes later.

But with most the traffic coming from Aldershot, it felt almost a matter of time before they would seal the deal.

Failing to clear a lofted Aldershot ball once more, Barrett was once hand to smash the ball into the top corner.

Next up for the Stones, a trip to the LNER Stadium to face York City.
