Sesay called up for AFCON 2021

Stones winger David Sesay has been called up for the Sierra Leone squad to play in the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 tournament taking place in Cameroon in January.

He was originally part of the 40-man provisional squad named by Leone Stars manager John Keister on 21st December and is due to fly out tomorrow to meet up with his teammates.

This is only the third time the Leone Stars have qualified for AFCON and the first time in 25 years, with the side last playing in the 1996 tournament.

They have yet to make it past Round 1 of the tournament and have group games against the holders Algeria, Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea where David will hopefully be competing up against the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Wilfried Zaha.

Due to injury and recent postponements, David has yet to make his Stones debut, but nonetheless we wish him and his Sierra Leone teammates all the best as they bid to make history and as he represents the club on a global stage.

Sierra Leone's first game is against holders Algeria at the Japoma Stadium in the Cameroonian capital of Douala on 11th January and the whole tournament is being televised in the UK live on Sky Sports, so you can join in with us and cheer on David and Sierra Leone from afar.
