Wealdstone FC’s HAF Summer Camps a Huge Success
We're delighted to announce the successful completion of our Summer Camps, in partnership with Hillingdon Council as part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme. The camps, run over 12 days at our Grosvenor Vale stadium site and Brunel University London, where our training ground and academy are based, provided an enriching experience for young people in the Hillingdon community.
The HAF programme, funded by Hillingdon Council, reserved 50 places per day for school-aged children from reception to year 11 who are educated, live, or are under local authority care in Hillingdon and receive benefits-related free school meals. In addition to the reserved spots, places were also available on a paid basis to families whose children do not qualify for free school meals, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all.
The camps welcomed an average of 100 participants per day at Grosvenor Vale and 70 per day at Brunel University, catering for children and young people aged 4 to 16, and up to 18 years old for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This diverse age range allowed us to offer a broad spectrum of activities designed to engage, educate, and entertain.
The summer camps aimed to provide more than just a fun time; they were designed to promote physical activity, social interaction, and nutritious eating, all while providing a safe and supportive environment for children to learn new skills. Participants enjoyed a variety of sports, games, and educational workshops, fostering teamwork, confidence, and a sense of community.
"We are thrilled with the success of our HAF Summer Camps and the positive feedback from the families involved," said Richard Hopwood, Chief Operating Officer at Wealdstone FC. "Thanks to the support from Hillingdon Council, we were able to offer an invaluable experience for local children, ensuring they stayed active and engaged during the summer holidays."
