Wealdstone welcomes new member to Board of Directors
Wealdstone Football Club, which continues to strengthen itself both on and off the pitch, is pleased to announce the newest member of its Board of Directors.
Todd Johnson, a 57-year-old US businessman and a passionate football fan, will officially join the board later this month.
“I am thrilled and honoured to be joining the board of this truly amazing football club,” Johnson said. “Throughout its history, Wealdstone has continually defied the odds, punching far above its weight, it’s truly inspirational. The board, staff, sponsors, volunteers and supporters of Wealdstone are just extraordinary.” he added.
With this appointment, Johnson, COO of a US-based wine, beer, and spirits company, becomes the first American citizen to join the Board of Directors of Wealdstone since its founding in 1899.
“We are fortunate and excited to have Todd join our skilled and dedicated Board of Directors,” said Chairman, Rory Fitzgerald, “First and foremost, Todd’s a great guy who clearly loves his football and is already an unbelievably passionate Stones fan.”. Todd will bring valuable behind-the-scenes commercial experience to the table, we can’t wait to start working together.”
In addition to his business background, Todd also brings a unique football perspective to the Wealdstone Board, as a member of the ownership group of Minnesota United, FC, a highly successful club in the MLS, the United States’ top division.
Paul Rumens who introduced Todd to the club added “We really have great potential here at Wealdstone, who doesn’t root for the underdog? As a small, part-time club successfully competing against clubs twice our size, we are a modern David vs Goliath - it’s a compelling story that as you can see, is resonating far beyond the UK. The future is very bright at Wealdstone as we strive to close the gap and make further progress as a club”.
