We are delighted to announce the signing of free agent winger Mustapha Carayol on a permanent deal.
Primarily a wide player, the former Gambian international is able to play through the middle as either an attacking midfielder or a striker.
Mustapha brings a wealth of experience to his Stones move, with over 300 career appearances, including 124 in the Championship and over 200 across League One and League Two.
The winger began his career in the youth ranks of Swindon Town before joining MK Dons, where he made his professional debut under Paul Ince.
In 2012, Mustapha made the move to Championship side Middlesbrough, where he’d go on to make 50 appearances, scoring 11 goals.
Loan spells at Brighton & Hove Albion, Huddersfield Town and Leeds United added to an already impressive CV before joining fellow Championship side Nottingham Forest in 2016, on a permanent deal.
Mustapha made 34 appearances across the 2016/17 campaign before making a permanent switch to Ipswich Town at the end of the season.
Spells abroad followed for Mustapha, he joined Cypriot side Apollon Limassol in 2018 where he racked up another 14 appearances, including three in the Europa League, where he’d make a man of the match performance in a 2-1 defeat to Lazio.
Mustapha joined Turkish side Adana Demirspor before returning to England in 2021. The winger has since spent time at both Gillingham and Burton Albion, making 45 appearances in League One, across both spells.
Mustapha joined Exeter City at the start of the current campaign, making six appearances before leaving the club in January following his release.
Mustapha takes the no.11 shirt and goes straight into today’s matchday squad to face Eastleigh.
